Doru T. Alexandrescu, M.D. is a board-certified oncologist, internist, and hematologist. Dr Alexandrescu completed his medical residency and his fellowship in medical oncology and hematology at New York Medical College .
Dr. Alexandrescu has authored articles in peer-reviewed dermatology and oncology journals such as Archives of Dermatology, Clinical and Experimental Dermatology, International Journal of Dermatology, Dermatology Online Journal, Medical Oncology, Leukemia & Lymphoma, Clinical Oncology, Journal of Immunotherapy, American Journal of Hematology.
Dr. Alexandrescu has written textbook and book chapters on immunotherapy of melanoma, cutaneous lymphomas, dermatological emergencies in oncology, and cutaneous toxicity of chemotherapeutical agents. He is a reviewer for several dermatology and oncology journals, including the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, British Journal of Dermatology, and Clinical and Experimental
Dermatology.
Dr. Alexandrescu is actively involved in clinical research and teaching the Melanoma Fellows, Oncology Fellows, and Medical Residents and students at the Washington Hospital Center , Georgetown University . His current research interests include the treatment of melanoma and understanding its natural evolution from the cutaneous stages to distant metastases. Dr. Alexandrescu is conducting clinical research involving antibodies against CTLA-4 and survivin, targeted to enhance anti-tumor immunity and inhibit antiapoptotic pathways. He is interested in analyzing the effect of blocking cellular pro-angiogenetic and proliferative pathways by using multiple tyrosine kinase inhibitors as biological modulators and sensitizers to the effects of cytotoxic chemotherapy.
